About me
I began my engineering career in 1990 in the field of traction drive equipment, including 6 months on the testing of the class 373 "TransManche Super Train" - more commonly known as the Eurostar e300.
In 1992, I entered the world of MV switchgear, spending 3 years working on the design and testing of secondary distribution switchgear and ring-main units.
1996 saw me move to a major international manufacturer specialising in metal-clad primary switchgear, auto-reclosers and DC switchgear. Initially working as a CAD design engineer using ProEngineer and later SolidWorks, I progressed to become lead engineer for the leading UK built range of indoor fixed-pattern switchgear, overseeing all aspects of design, testing and manufacture. I also acted as CAD Administrator.
In 2012, I took the roll of Technical Manager of a privately owned specialist in retrofit circuit breakers before a sideways move to head up their newly formed Quality Department. Here I also took responsibility for the quality aspects of the protection relays division, while retaining significant involvement in switchgear design and development as the senior engineer in the business.
As Quality Manager, I oversaw the transition of the organisations Quality Management System from ISO 9001:2008 to ISO 9001:2015 with its increased focus on risk based thinking and aligning quality with wider business strategy and continued to drive improvement.
